Bus-Tech, Inc. Announces Support for EMC Centera Content Addressed Storage Platform
Cost-effective end-to-end Fixed Content Solution
Burlington, MA - June 3, 2003 - Bus-Tech™, Inc., today announced support for EMC Centera content addressed storage (CAS) for its Mainframe Appliance for Storage (MAS) product. The new integrated solution will provide a powerful method of managing fixed content to make information available throughout the enterprise on a cost-effective basis. The technology enables faster, more efficient knowledge sharing across the enterprise, allowing companies to devote more time and resources to customer service initiatives, and as a result, improved customer satisfaction.
EMC Centera CAS is a software-driven storage architecture specifically designed to address the unique information storage requirements of fixed content. Once relegated to tape archives, optical disks, or file cabinets, fixed content is now being driven online, fueled by regulatory requirements, digitization of industries and the desire to leverage content into new services and revenue streams.

Bus-Tech, Inc.'s Mainframe Appliance for Storage operates as a tape sub-system on IBM's System/390 or zSeries mainframes. The MAS connects directly to System/390 through one or two ESCON attachments and emulates up to 64 IBM tape drives. Applications running under z/OS, OS/390 or VSE can attach to one of these drives and use it as they would a real tape drive. Instead of creating or reading real tape cartridges the MAS stores application tape files on EMC's Centera platform. Minimal change is required to existing applications or operations. The solution is ideally suited for mainframe fixed content applications currently processed on tape. For these applications, retrieval time of fixed content can be reduced from 1 to 2 minutes to a few seconds, rivaling that of a DASD real-time environment.
