Bus-Tech, Inc. Announces FICON Connectivity for EMC Centera
New Feature Offers Wider Range of Connectivity Options
Burlington, MA - July 19, 2004 - Today, Bus-Tech®, Inc., a leading supplier of data center connectivity products, announced significant enhancements to the MAS for EMC Centera content addressed storage (CAS) by offering support for FICON connectivity. This enhancement allows greater configuration flexibility for both point-to-point and switched FICON environments.
The new release of the MAS for EMC Centera supports FICON channel connection to IBM mainframes. Customers will benefit from FICON's improved performance, greater distance capabilities while maintaining end-to-end performance and use of standard fibre channel technology for implementing data center infrastructure. The MAS for EMC Centera supports both FICON and FICON-Express using either single or multi-mode fiber.
Bus-Tech, Inc.'s MAS-Centera emulates standard IBM tape drives, allowing those applications using tape as their storage medium to be upgraded by writing data to Centera instead, with little-to-no disruption to their current operating environment. In addition, the MAS-Centera product can reduce the floor space required for tape drives and cartridge storage, reduce personnel costs associated with managing a large tape library and reduce or eliminate the overall number of tape cartridges needed in support of those applications.
"Many mainframe customers are in the process of implementing a new FICON infrastructure while some large accounts have already transitioned to a complete FICON environment" stated Roy Sanford, EMC Vice President, Content Addressed Storage. "Bus-Tech, Inc.'s support of FICON in the MAS-Centera product allows customers to easily deploy Centera to store, protect, and manage mainframe-based fixed content."
EMC Centera CAS simplifies management, ensures content authenticity and delivers petabyte-level scalability. The Mainframe Appliance for Storage (MAS) automates and intelligently manages the archiving of data from an IBM (or compatible) mainframe to a Centera system. With this powerful integrated solution, Centera provides a central storage archive that is safe and secure, so customers can utilize those fixed content assets from anywhere at anytime, whether it's for product development, customer transactions or meeting government regulations.
"Customers continue to benefit from our improvements to the MAS with support for EMC Centera," said Jim O'Connor, Director, Product Marketing for Bus-Tech, Inc. "With our product, customers using EMC Centera have safe and secure storage archiving in a central location where content can be accessed from anywhere. This new connection option to the mainframe makes the solution available to a wider customer base and demonstrates Bus-Tech, Inc.'s commitment to staying current with IBM's latest channel technologies."
The MAS Centera with FICON connectivity is available immediately.
