Bus-Tech, Inc. Announces New Enhancements of the Mainframe Appliance for Storage
New Features Offer Higher Performance and Enhanced DR Capabilities
Burlington, MA - November 15, 2004 - Bus-Tech®, Inc., a leading supplier of data center connectivity products, announced significant enhancements to the Mainframe Appliance for Storage (MAS). This new release of the MAS, a tape-on-disk controller, offers both higher performance and enhanced reliability to deliver improved backup and disaster recovery capabilities.
The combination of a faster CPU and enhancements to the software architecture, have resulted in the MAS solution exceeding 100MB/s throughput in a FICON to Fibre channel environment. This sets a new standard of price performance benefits for data backup in the data center. The MAS solution in an ESCON environment continues to achieve the maximum effective throughput of IBM's ESCON channel.
Additionally the MAS FICON solution now conforms to the FICON SB3 protocol standard. This feature provides support for cascading directors allowing the mainframe the ability to communicate through its local director to a remote director to gain access to the remote peripherals. This feature could be used to provide a long-haul connection between production and DR sites. Backup data can be written directly to an open-system disk array at the DR site, as opposed to cutting and sending physical tapes. The DR site is able restore the mainframe files from the local open-system disk array.
"There is a significant need for companies to be able to shrink their back up windows and improve recoverability in order for companies to return quickly to their regular business operations," said John Webster of the Data Mobility Group. "Bus-Tech, Inc.'s new MAS enhancements offer a cost-effective way for customers to seamlessly access applications and data, which reside on the Mainframe, without sacrificing performance, reliability, security or manageability."
