Bus-Tech Delivers Mainframe Digital Archiving Solution
Combined Offering with Hitachi Content Archiving Platform Delivers Fully Integrated Solution for Mainframe Tape-on-Disk Archive Operations
Burlington, MA - June 5, 2007 - Bus-Tech, Inc., a market leader in mainframe tape-on-disk controllers and data center connectivity products, and Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT) and the only provider of Services Oriented Storage Solutions, today announced product availability of the Hitachi Content Archive Platform with Bus-Tech's Mainframe Data Library (MDL) and Mainframe Appliance for Storage (MAS). The combined Hitachi Content Archive Platform and Bus-Tech's MDL/MAS offering provide a mainframe digital archiving solution to better manage information growth, regulatory compliance and governance, for secure long-term preservation and retention of digital content and ready access to that content whenever it is needed. The Bus-Tech certified content archive solution delivers significant benefits by providing improved archive, backup, and recovery architecture for mainframe storage environments.
"Bus-Tech's mainframe content archive solution brings to the forefront the breakthrough innovations built into the Hitachi Content Archive Platform. Our approach to mainframe content shares the same commitment to access that has made us successful in open system environments. This agreement Bus-Tech highlights the business benefits that a partnership in the Hitachi ISV program can bring," said Andres Rodriguez, CTO of File Services at Hitachi Data Systems. "We are committed to investing in our ISV partner ecosystem by providing partners with a universal platform that delivers content management services that enable storage users to meet the retention, scalability, preservation and protection requirements for their data assets."
Bus-Tech's MDL and MAS are tape-on-disk offerings that attach directly to zSeries mainframe FICON or ESCON input/output channels and use standard Gigabit Ethernet IP and Fibre channel to attach to disk storage systems. To the mainframe, MDL and MAS emulate up to one-thousand twenty-four (MDL) or two-hundred fifty-six (MAS) 3480/3490/3590 tape drives; allowing mainframe-based applications to store tape data to the Hitachi Content Archive Platform by writing sequential files to disk as if they were standard tape devices.
"We are thrilled about the Hitachi Content Archive Platform certification for MDL and MAS which is our first offering as members of the Hitachi Data Systems ISV Partner Program," said Al Brandt, President, Bus-Tech, Inc. "This fully integrated offering will help customers improve access time to tape based data, reduce tape handling and operational costs, and enhance disaster recovery capabilities."
Bus-Tech's MDL and MAS controllers have been tested and certified to operate with Hitachi Content Archive Platform-Version 2.0. MDL and MAS attach to Hitachi Content Archive Platform-Version 2.0 using standard HTTP protocol. The combination of Hitachi Content Archive Platform-Version 2.0 with MDL or MAS provides online archive storage to mainframe applications requiring long-term archival capabilities.
