Bus-Tech, Inc. Announces Clustered SAN Support for the Mainframe Data Library

Provides High Availability in SAN Environments

Burlington, MA - August 13, 2007 - Today, Bus-Tech®, Inc., a leading supplier of data center connectivity products announced the upcoming support for clustered SAN support in the Mainframe Data Library (MDL); the revolutionary tape-on-disk controller for IBM and compatible mainframes. The MDL provides enterprise data centers with lower tape processing costs, improved end-user service levels, innovative disaster recovery alternatives, and the ability to include compliant storage in their mainframe environment.

This enhancement to the Mainframe Data Library allows fibre channel attached disks to be shared across multiple MDL Emulation Nodes. The feature provides each Emulation Node with two fibre channel data ports and software that manages the tape file access privileges. A SAN-attached MDL now has all the redundancy and high-availability characteristics previously available only for IP-attached storage implementations.

"Clustered SAN support provides the same high-availability environment for Storage Area Network implementations that had been previously available only in a Network Attached Storage implementation." said Bus-Tech President Al Brandt. "Many of our customers have been seeking SAN support in the MDL product to take advantage of SAN's speed and security features."

The MDL is a tape-on-disk controller that attaches directly to the mainframe via FICON or ESCON input/output channels and use standard Gigabit Ethernet or Fibre Channel to attach to open systems storage. The MDL provides multiple independently operating Emulation Nodes to insure the highest availability. Each Emulation Node provides a minimum of 2 FICON or ESCON channel interfaces and a fully populated MDL emulates up to 1,024 mainframe tape drives. The MDL supports in-line data encryption and IDRC compression.

Capitalizing on the data mirroring capabilities of today's open-system storage, the MDL provides innovative alternatives for implementing tape data storage and Disaster Recovery strategies. The MDL eliminates the need for tape duplexing and offsite shipping by using IP-based data replication over private or public wide area networks. And, when compared to current peer-to-peer tape data replication solutions, the MDL can eliminate requirements for specialized channel extension equipment and provide concurrent data replication to multiple sites.

Clustered SAN support will be available on November 1, 2007.
