Virtuent software engine
Virtuent™ is Bus-Tech's proven tape-on-disk technology that is the engine for the award-winning Mainframe Data Library (MDL) products. The Virtuent application runs on the MDL, processes the FICON/ESCON channel protocols, and writes the "tape" data sets to industry-standard storage arrays, including Deduplication storage, Network Attached Storage (NAS), Storage Attached Network (SAN), compliant storage solutions or open-system VTL products from FalconStor, Sepaton or Quantum:
- Virtuent effortlessly interacts with virtually any storage array.
- The Virtuent engine's advanced capabilities include compression and encryption with RSA Key Management to help protect your valuable data while, at the same time, minimizing the amount of disk storage required.
- Virtuent provides concurrent support for multiple classes of storage to address all of your tape processing requirements. Deduplication for backups, compliant storage for fixed content (WORM) and high-speed storage for small format files.
- Virtuent allows mainframe tape-based applications to take advantage of the advanced capabilities of RAID-protected storage while providing a significant improvement in the performance and reliability of your mainframe tape data. These advanced data protection capabilities include IP-based Data Replication; Disaster Recovery testing utilizing SnapShots; and the compliance attributes needed for fixed content.
- The Virtuent software can be configured to write mainframe tape data out to the industry's leading VTL engines. This allows users to take advantage of the capabilities that Distributed System VTLs provide. Customers now have the option of combining their mainframe and distributed system backup processes into a single, converged operation.
- Virtuent provides "phone home" capabilities to proactively notify Bus-Tech support and the customer that a component may be failing so that replacement can be arranged.
To the IBM or compatible mainframe, Virtuent technology appears as a collection of 3480/3490/3590 tape drives. When the mainframe needs to retrieves the tape volume, Virtuent intercepts the mount request, opens the data set and responds with a "ready" command back to the mainframe. It then presents the data back to the mainframe exactly as if it had been stored on a real 3xxx tape cartridge.
Along with performance improvements in your mainframe tape processing, the Mainframe Data Library powered by the Virtuent software engine lowers operation costs with significant increases in data reliability.
