Are your batch processing jobs taking too long to complete?

Locating and mounting tapes, and the need to search and rewind, are physical barriers that limit your ability to optimize your batch processing workflow. The Mainframe Data Library (MDL) eliminates the mechanical issues of tape.

Accelerate your batch processing routines.

With the MDL, all cartridges are on spinning disk with up to 1,536 tape transports available, delivering consistent sub-second response access to the first byte of data. And because the MDL eliminates many of the mechanical processes of tape, such as robotics, mounts, and rewinds, your batch jobs can run up to 50% faster. [see case study]

Find exactly what you need in less than a second.

In both production and disaster recovery, precious time can be lost locating the appropriate tape cartridge. With the MDL, all tape cartridge files are located on spinning disk and each cartridge is an independent file using the vol-ser as the file name. The tape management system tells the MDL to mount a specific vol-ser and, in less than a second, the MDL opens the file and presents a READY to the operating system.

Save CPU cycles with Data Exchange.

The MDL Data Exchange feature sends data between the mainframe and LINUX/UNIX as a tape operation to the mainframe. Simply designate one of your MDL tape transports to send or receive a file to a specific platform. When writing a tape file to or from the mainframe, that drive designation is treated like an NFS client and data is sent directly to or from the target NFS server. This feature is useful for data warehousing or data mining implementations.
