Are your recovery point objectives and recovery time objectives dictated by your tape system?

In a typical tape environment, tapes have to be pulled and sent to a disaster recovery site before the restore process can begin. That's assuming the physical tapes haven't been delayed, lost, or stolen. Bus-Tech can help you reduce the gap between your recovery point objective and recovery time objective.

Cut your RPO/RTO from days to hours.

With the MDL, data is replicated to the disaster recovery site within minutes after its creation, giving you greater flexibility in defining your RPO. You can back up key files every hour and have them safely and securely off site within minutes. The MDL is a bootable device capable of satisfying mount requests with consistent sub-second response, so your RTO is no longer defined by your ability to locate and process recovery tapes.

Take the risk out of disaster recovery testing.

Disaster recovery testing with VTS and VSM implementations often require users to break the peer-to-peer link and then re-establish it once testing is complete. With the MDL, disaster recovery testing can be done from a point-in-time copy or a clone copy at the disaster recovery site. The link between the production and disaster recovery sites is never disconnected-so replication continues during testing.

Eliminate delays in your business continuation process.

Recovering files that have been backed up to tape requires a number of time-consuming steps: locate the cartridge; find an available drive; mount the tape; and do a sequential process to get to the specific file. Because all of the tape files in the MDL are on spinning disk, mounting and locating mission-critical files can usually be completed within seconds.

Restore mainframe operating systems quickly.

The three IBM mainframe operating systems (z/OS, VM/ESA and VSE/ESA) all have standalone utilities that must be Initial Program Loaded (IPL) from tape if a disaster occurs. The MDL lets you create these standalone utilities-along with full-pack backups of the operating system-to give you a complete image of your mainframe. The standalone utilities can be quickly IPLed from the MDL and copied to other media, such as a flash disk, for even greater protection.

Protect your reputation with data encryption.

The MDL comes with AES 256 data encryption capability to provide a high level of data security and prevent unauthorized access-either internally or during data vaulting operations. This no-cost feature can prevent the loss of sensitive customer information and safeguard your company's image.
