The MDL has no single point of failure, supports non-disruptive upgrades and supports mainframe tape operations of up to 400MB/sec.
The zDASD 3990 controllers allow users to deploy open-system storage platforms as mainframe attached DASD. This device can be used in a Linux clustered mainframe environment as a boot device, as a replacement for older DASD technology or as a key element of in your Disaster Recovery or Information Lifecycle Management strategy.

The The Mainframe Appliance for Storage - Entry is an entry level virtual tape controller for IBM System/390 and compatible mainframes, which supports a single FICON connection to the mainframe and uses open-system IP-based storage devices to store and retrieve mainframe tape data sets. The MAS-E can be used as an alternative to or in conjunction with other virtual tape systems to help manage the ever-growing volume of tape data in the data center.
