Unable to Vary Devices Online;
ESCON Adapter Displays
"Channel Offline - No Light"

Symptom

MAS devices cannot be varied online. The ESCON adapter's LEDs display the scrolling message "Channel Offline - No Light".

Resolution

The ESCON adapter does not come online to the channel (raise light) until one or more connections have been activated by the MAS application. Examine the LEDs for the number of connections open, i.e. "0 Connections Open" or "8 Connections Open".

If the LED display says "0 Connections Open", this means that either the application has not been started or it has failed to start for some reason. Examine the MAS console for any error messages. If the application hasn't been started, start it by double-clicking on the Start Channel Connection icon on the MAS main desktop.

If the LED display says that 1 or more connections are open, but still says "Channel Offline - No Light", it is most likely a problem outside of the MAS. Check that the ESCON cable is plugged in correctly at both ends and is plugged into the correct mainframe channel. Verify that the mainframe channel is correctly configured and activated. Try replacing the ESCON cable with a known good cable.
