IBM Updates Required for MAS in an MTL Environment

Symptom

IEA437I Error Message When Varying MTL Devices

Attempting to vary on more than one MTL device. The first MTL device will vary online but all subsequent devices will fail with the above error message.

Resolution

IBM has acknowledged that this is erroneous behavior by MVS, in APAR number OA03749.

Symptom

IEA437I Error Message When Varying MTL Devices

This problem will occur if the MAS's channel adapter serial number changes after MVS has varied on the device at least once. The MAS's serial number would change if the MAS and/or channel adapter is replaced. Note that this is not an issue with the MAS, per se, but applies to any MTL device attached to MVS.

Resolution

IBM has acknowledged that this is erroneous behavior by MVS, in APAR number OA06698.

Symptom

Tape mount hangs / times out using MTL with OEM Automated Library

This problem will only affect OAM users.
In the Bus-Tech MAS environment, automated mounts are canceling faster than an actual operator would be able to cancel the mounts. The problems that may result when too many automated cancels occur include:
Performance issues, or error message CBR6405D - mount time-outs.

Resolution

IBM has acknowledged that this is erroneous behavior by MVS, in APAR number OA07945.

Symptom

Tape volume capacity incorrect for OAM object users

This will only affect OAM users also using MTL.
The tape volume capacity may not reflect the esoteric defined tape capacity as defined in the SETOAM TAPECAPACITY parameter. The tape capacity will default to the value of 874218 for enhanced capacity media.

Resolution

IBM has acknowledged that this is erroneous behavior by MVS, in APAR number OA08963.

Symptom

IEA437I Error Message Issued When MTL Scratch Volume with SGNAME is Mounted

When a manual tape library (MTL) scratch volume with a storage group name recorded in the RMM CDS is mounted for a non-specific mount request, the requested volume may be rejected with RMM message EDG4021I:
EDG4021I VOLUME volser REJECTED.
IT IS NOT IN AN ACCEPTABLE SCRATCH POOL.
POOL=REQUESTED,SGNAME=xxMTL MOUNTED
EDG4005E VOLUME volser ON device REJECTED FOR USE.

Additional keywords: DFSMSrmm DFRMM RMM STORGRP MSEDG4021I
LOCAL FIX: Use the TSO RMM CHANGEVOLUME subcommand with the NOSTORAGEGROUP operand to blank out a storage group for the volume.

Resolution

IBM has acknowledged that this is erroneous behavior by MVS, in APAR number OA10482.
